Last updated June 4, 2010

How to complete all asynchronous class activities:

  1. Log in to the course home page: http://www.nowhereroad.com/instructionaldesign/
Note: Most accounts were set up where the username is the same as your UGA myID username, but your password is the last 4 digits of your UGA ID (not your SSN. Your new UGA ID is located on your UGA Card. Of the 16 numbers, your UGA ID begins with the 7th digit. So, use numbers 12-15 as your password. If you don't have your card handy, you can also find out your UGA ID number by logging into OASIS and choosing the option "View UGA Card Number." (If you can't remember your log-in information, note that there is an option on the log-in screen to have your username and password emailed to you automatically.)
  2. Follow the Course Learning Plan according to the recommended due dates.

Step-by-step procedure for attending each online live class:

  1. Check your email for any pertinent news related to the course.
  2. At least 15 minutes before class time, log into eLearning Commons - https://www.elc.uga.edu/ - with your UGA myID (there is also a link to eLC on the course learning plan)
  3. Select the eLC course associated with your instructor.
  4. From eLC, click on "Horizon Wimba Virtual Classroom."
  5. Click on the room titled "Introduction to Instructional Design."
  6. Click on the icon "Enter this Room."
Note that breakout rooms are also listed (e.g. Breakout Room 1, etc.). Small group discussions will take place here. This is also where teams can hold meetings. When in HW, you can go from room another by 'going through' the lobby.

Step-by-step procedure for reviewing the Horizon Wimba Archives (recordings of live classes conducted to date during the term):

  1. Log in to eLearning Commons and select the course associated with your instructor.

Logging On and Off of Horizon Wimba

When you first log on you are located in the "lobby" of Horizon Wimba. Click on the room titled "Introduction to Instructional Design" -- this is where our live class session will be held. As soon as you enter the room, click if you hear audio and if you do not.

ALWAYS click when you want to log out of the Horizon Wimba system. If you do not, you may not be able to reenter until Horizon Wimba "clears" your seat -- this may take up to 10 minutes.

Moving from Room to Room within Horizon Wimba

To move from room to room within Horizon Wimba, you always have to first go to the lobby. During class, we will occasionally have small group discussions in the break-out rooms. So, to move from the main room to one of the break-out rooms, click on the button to go back to the lobby. Then, click on the name of the break-out room where your small group will meet. (Teams will be assigned to their own respective break-out; teams can meet in their break-out room anytime during the week.)

Uploading PPT Slides in a Break-Out Room

Click here for directions on how to upload PPT slides to the presenter console.

All students have "presenter access" in the break out room. This gives you access to the presenter console and the whiteboard tools.

Audio problems

If you have problems hearing audio, click on and choose to disconnect, then reconnect audio.

If the audio problems are not solved quickly, click on the button to alert the instructor, and type a quick message about the problem in the chat window.

If you continue to have problems, choose to Horizon Wimba, and then log back in.

Horizon Wimba System-Wide Problem

If the entire class has major problems with the system, do the following:

If your instructor does not provide information within 5 minutes in the chat room or so, then figure that the problem is isolated to your own computer. Try to log back in to Horizon Wimba. If you are still not successful, enter your problem in the chat window and email your instructor of the situation, realizing that s/he may only read the email after class.
